End of Summer? Nah!
By Tim Hauserman
Yes, it’s happened once again. This incredibly fleeting event we call a Lake Tahoe summer is coming to a close. It gives us warm temperatures, blue skies (well, most of the time) and lots of fun things to do. We’ve been out riding our bikes at Tahoe Cross-Country Ski Area or spinning to the top of Blackwood Canyon. We’ve been paddling our way along Lake Tahoe’s lakeshore then jumping into Tahoe’s crisp and clear waters. We’ve been hiking up to Desolation Wilderness to gaze quietly at high granite peaks. And then of course we’ve enjoyed summer concerts, movies, farmers markets, boat shows and Shakespeare on the edge of the lake, anything that gets people together and toasting the season.
Now, alas, like all good things, it must come to an end. Labor Day approaches, and all those kids are being packed off to school kicking and screaming, and taking the crowds of formerly happy revilers with them back to the city. Goodbye everyone, thanks for coming, it was great playing with you!
Ok, are they gone? Those of you who are still here, move in a little closer so I can whisper. September is actually the best month of the year. It’s awwwsommmmeee! The trails are quieter, but still beautiful. You can head out on the lake and have the place to yourself. And when you need to turn left in Tahoe City you can actually do so in the wink of an eye. And yet, there are still lots of great activities to do with your friends and family. For example:
Walking tours, Autumn Food and Wine events, Trails and Vistas, Farmers Markets, Tahoe Sierra Century Ride, Ironman Lake Tahoe, Fat Tire Festival, Ukulele Festival, Lederhosen 10K run, Lake Tahoe Marathon, Stand up Paddleboard races, Kayak tours, Farm to Table Dinners, Fine Art Festivals. Whew. You are going to need those quiet hikes into the wilderness just to recover from it all.
So come on up and enjoy Tahoe in September. But don’t tell anyone I sent you. The locals like to keep it a secret.
