Don’t forget the lake!
With all of the snow and blue sky sunshine we’ve received at Tahoe this winter, it would be easy to just focus on playing in the snow, but that big body of water is still here and looking quite beautiful. Once you’ve had your fill of skiing, don’t forget to find your way to the lake, where you will once again marvel at the simple joy to be found by standing along the shore of Lake Tahoe.
In the winter, Tahoe is still it’s remarkably dark blue self, but gazing out over the lake in the colder months has three distinct advantages over the summer:
Sunny winter days bring skies that are even bluer than in the summer.
The high peaks surrounding the lake are covered in deep blankets of white, creating a particularly spectacular contrast with the boundless blue of the lake and that aforementioned blue sky.
And perhaps most importantly: The winter crowds are at the ski areas, they are not hanging out at the beach. The boats are gone, the people are gone, and the lakeshore is peacefully quiet. Find a great spot, sit back and relax and reflect on how lucky you are have of the most beautiful places on earth to yourself.
Where to go? The Commons Beach in Tahoe City is a great spot to take a seat and reflect, as is along the rocky beach of Hurricane Bay, which is located three and a half miles south of Tahoe City along Highway 89. On the North Shore, head to Bristlecone Beach in Lake Forest, Waterman’s Landing in Carnelian Bay, or any of the beaches in Tahoe Vista or Kings Beach for a long and sandy stroll along the lake.
