August Happenings!
Summer at Lake Tahoe always roars by way too fast. The weather is awesome, the lake is spectacular, and the calendar is full of fun things to do outdoors. Get out there and enjoy it while you still can. Here are a few great options:
Lake Tahoe Concours d’ Elegance Wooden Boat Show-August 7th and 8th. Obexer’s Marina, Homewood. Check out a whole passel of amazing antique wooden boats all packed together for your viewing pleasure at Obexer’s. The boats are competing for prizes, so the owners have spiffed them up to a pretty shine. For many, the wooden boat show is a chance to venture down memory lane to a time when these mahogany wonders ruled the lake. laketahoeconcours.com
Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival at Sand Harbor State Park. Not sure if it is possible to beat the stunning beauty of watching a performance amongst the boulders and sand at the edge of Lake Tahoe. You can pay a bit more and get a seat close to the performers or climb the sand dune and see both a great performance on stage, and the sunset performance over Lake Tahoe. Romeo and Juliet are highlighting the event this year Tuesday-Sunday evenings until August 23. If you miss that you can attend the Midsummer Nightmare on August 27 and 28th, or watch Bobby Caldwell sing on September 5th. Summer Concerts at The Commons, Tahoe City
Every Sunday afternoon until September 6th the idyllic setting of The Commons Beach in Tahoe City is the place to be for music and the gathering of friends. Bring your picnic and watch the music, the lake and the people. Or if the spirit moves you, get up and dance with the crowd next to the stage. concertsatcommonsbeach.com
Truckee Thursdays
Every Thursday through August 27th Downtown Truckee shuts down and becomes a combination Street Fair-Farmers Market-Beer Garden-Music Venue and of course a great gathering place to find your friends and make new ones. And just for a little added bonus a train usually comes roaring through town right in the middle of the event. truckeethursdays.com
